  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6 Danishes 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Danish Pastry:

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (or puff pastry)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ½ tsp lemon zest (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 tbsp milk or heavy cream
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

For the Icing Drizzle (Optional):

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk or cream
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2: Make the Filling

  1. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, egg yolk, and lemon zest until smooth and creamy.

Step 3: Prepare the Dough

  1. If using crescent roll dough, unroll it and pinch the seams together to form a single sheet.
  2. If using puff pastry, roll it out slightly on a floured surface.
  3. Cut the dough into six equal rectangles or triangles, depending on your preferred shape.

Step 4: Assemble the Danish

  1. Place 1 tablespoon of cream cheese filling in the center of each dough piece.
  2. Fold or twist the edges to partially enclose the filling, leaving some of it exposed for a classic Danish look.
  3. Lightly brush the dough with milk or heavy cream to give it a golden finish.

Step 5: Bake

  1. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the Danishes are golden brown and puffed.

Step 6: Prepare the Icing (Optional)

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Drizzle the icing over the cooled Danish for an extra sweet touch.

Step 7: Serve & Enjoy

  1. Let the Danishes cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
  2. Serve warm or at room temperature with a cup of coffee or tea.

Notes

  • For a fruit-filled Danish, add raspberry, blueberry, or strawberry jam on top of the cheese filling before baking.
  • For a nutty crunch, sprinkle chopped almonds, pecans, or walnuts before baking.
  • For extra crispiness, use puff pastry instead of crescent roll dough.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 5 minutes.
  • Freeze baked Danishes by wrapping them in plastic wrap and placing them in a freezer-safe bag. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat before serving.
