Ingredients
500g minced beef
1 medium turnip, peeled and diced
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika (optional)
1 tsp dried thyme or Italian herbs
1 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp olive oil
1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade), chilled
Instructions
Prepare the Filling:
In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Sauté the onion and garlic until soft. Add minced beef and cook until browned. Stir in diced turnip, tomato paste, salt, pepper, paprika, and herbs. Cover and simmer until turnips are tender (about 10–12 minutes). Let mixture cool completely.Shape the Pastries:
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes (squares or circles).Assemble:
Add 1–2 tablespoons of the cooled filling to each piece. Fold over to seal into a parcel. Press the edges with a fork. Brush tops with egg wash.Bake:
Preheat oven to 200°C (390°F). Bake pastries on a parchment-lined tray for 25–30 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
Notes
Cool the filling before assembling to avoid soggy pastry.
You can make mini versions for snacks or party appetizers.
Freeze unbaked pastries and bake from frozen, adding 10 extra minutes.
Swap turnips with carrots or sweet potatoes if desired.
